Privacy policy
Last updated 9 August 2026
Zeitline has no user accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no login. We do not ask you for your name, your email address or anything else, and there is nothing to sign up for. This page describes the data that is nonetheless collected when you read the site, almost all of it by third parties.
What we collect directly
Very little, and none of it identifies you to us:
- Server logs. Our web server records the page requested, the time, your browser’s user-agent string and your IP address. This is standard web server behaviour and is used to keep the site running and to detect abuse. Logs rotate and are not used to build a profile of you.
- Search terms. If you use the search box, the term is sent as part of the URL so we can return results. It is not stored against you or retained.
We set no cookies of our own on the public site. The only cookie this application issues is a session cookie for the private administration area, which readers never receive.
Advertising
This site carries advertising served by Google, including Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Advertising is served independently of our editorial process. Advertisers have no input into what we publish, as set out on the about page.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are read and roughly where readers come from. It sets cookies and records a truncated IP address, page paths and approximate location at country level. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual readers, and we could not do so.
You can prevent it entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking the script with any standard content blocker. Nothing on this site depends on it.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent data about you. There is nothing to sell.
- We do not build reader profiles or maintain a mailing list.
- We do not embed social-media tracking pixels, and we run no sponsored or affiliate content.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the EU and UK, and the CCPA in California — you have rights to access, correct or delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing.
Because we hold no accounts, we usually hold nothing that identifies you beyond transient server logs. For data held by Google through advertising and analytics, the opt-out links above are the direct route, and Google’s own partner-site policy explains what it collects.
For anything else, write to corrections@zeitline.news.
Children
This site is a general news publication and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — for instance if we add a service that collects something new — the date at the top of this page changes with it.
